Woman having reiki healing treatment

A form of meditation & relaxation. Positive energy is channeled from therapist to client.

This is a form of meditation, healing & relaxation. Positive energy is transferred from therapist to client. This is achieved when energy leaves the palms of the therapist, channeling the energy flow through the patient’s body. Reiki was created in an effort to heal areas affected by physical injury, and ease patients dealing with emotional pain or trauma.

Reiki takes place in a peaceful, quiet setting, with the client either sitting in a chair or lying flat on a table. The practitioner will then place the palms on various parts of the body, including the arms, legs, torso, and head. The client will feel the transfer of energy from the palms to the body, especially in areas affected by a specific injury. The energy is felt through the release of heat from the palms to the body. The practitioner moves to the next area of the body when the heat has left their hands. Some practitioners use chakra and crystals when performing Reiki on clients.

People who have experienced reiki treatment often report a sense of relaxation, and say their mental and physical healing were aided during the process. Some report a relief in stress, and an increase in overall well-being.

People with the following conditions have used Reiki to reduce pain:

  • Depression
  • Cancer
  • Infertility
  • Chronic pain
