Don’t cry wolf!  Florida has announced a new wellness experience in the form of meditating with wolves.

The Meditate with Wolves therapy offers the opportunity to meet and connect with exotic animals under the guidance of trained experts. This new wellness experience presents a different approach to meditation, energy healing and relaxation techniques. Shy Wolf Sanctuary, located on Paradise Coast Southwest Florida, offers educational and therapeutic programs which focus on animal encounters to create a healing connection with humans.

The sanctuary is a refuge for animals that were not accepted by government animal services, wildlife rehabilitators, or zoos. Shy Wolf Sanctuary currently has three adoptable wolfdogs named Willow, Sierra and Ozzy. Through its programmes, it aims to heal hearts and minds through rescue, sanctuary and education.

Shy Wolf does not buy, sell or breed. Instead, it rescues and re-homes wolfdogs that have been surrendered from owners unaware of the full character of their pet.  Combining breeds with the intelligence and determination of a wolf heritage can result in a very challenging animal for unprepared owners.  As a wolfdog grows into maturity its true personality emerges.  Some may be couch dogs while others may develop habits of climbing, escaping fences, and even a natural instinct to hunt. The consequences are much higher for captive-bred exotic animals. Without such sanctuaries wolfdogs would likely be put down.

In Florida it is legal to own wolfdogs but there are restrictions for higher content animals.  Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission oversees the regulation of wolves and any animal substantially the same as its wild ancestor.  Cities, counties and states can have bans on wolfdogs.

Shy Wolf Sanctuary provides education and advocacy to protect the lives of captive-bred exotic animals. www.ShyWolfSanctuary.org
