The Dead Sea

The Dead Sea, also known as the Salt Sea, is the lowest point on Earth and is bordered by Jordan to the east and Israel and the West Bank to the west. Known for being a “natural spa,” the Dead Sea brings in tourists to both Jordan and Israel for a chance to reap the benefits found within its water.

Relaxing Water

The water in the Dead Sea is known for being warm and soothing, much like bath water. The water is ten times saltier than normal sea water, so floating is effortless. Some find that the water helps to soothe and reduce joint pain. And there is no need to worry about sun damage– the vapour rising from evaporation acts as a natural UVB ray filter. No sunburns here!

Healing Mud

Many tourists visit Israel or Jordan specifically for the Dead Sea mud and the natural healing properties it has been known to have. The mud is a mineral rich alluvial sediment filled with high concentrations of magnesium, sodium, and potassium. It’s not uncommon to see tourists using the mud as a face or body mask as its been known to help treat skin conditions and imperfections. Many with psoriasis have reported a decrease in flares after using a mud compress on the affected areas. Others use the mud due to the highly concentrated amounts of sodium and magnesium, which help get rid of dead skin and other imperfections. Others have seen benefits in back pain and arthritis after applying the mud. Some have even seen a decrease in acne due to the mud mask.

There are 21 minerals found within the mud, and 12 of them are only found in the dead sea. The most important minerals found in the mud are sodium, magnesium, potassium, Sulphur, calcium, chlorine, and bromine. The sodium helps balance the skin’s pH levels. Magnesium enhances the skin’s metabolism. Potassium regulates the body’s water balance. Sulphur detoxifies and stimulates metabolism. Calcium clarifies the surface of the skin and relieves pain. Chlorine acts as a natural antiseptic, boosts the skin’s protective layer, and reduces swelling. Bromine acts as a muscle relaxant and has a calming effect. It is 20% more concentrated here than anywhere else in the world.

Unique Air

Like the rest of the Dead Sea, it’s air also has health benefits. The air surrounding the Dead Sea is 8% richer in oxygen, which can be beneficial for people with respiratory issues. The air is also dry with little humidity and is nearly allergen free. Visitors can breathe deeply and clearly while they sink deeper into relaxation.
